Suicide Squad (New 52)

Well there's a part of me that has always loved Harley, it's hard to explain why. She's always had potential but really she's been a sidekick character, a troublemaker easily thwarted by Batman and cast aside by Joker. Or maybe I've been playing too much Arkham Asylum and city!
And so we come to how I got into comics. The very glossy, very lovely 3D New 52 covers! Of course I had to have Harley in my collection, she's crazy but theres something there. The hopeless romantic to my cynical facade. A fanatical maniac to my sensible mathematician... oh okay maybe I am a little crazy, and she's a little clever!
So yes my initial interest in this series stems from Harley. If you don't like her this series probably isn't for you. She is a main character and I know that's not for everyone. However, there are an interesting stream of characters, most of which I wouldn't have been exposed to. I am very keen on Arrow so having Deadshot as a recurring character is great. There's interesting development between the characters even with an ever changing line up!
The whole idea is great to me. A team of villains, saving the day one corpse at a time. These blurred lines aren't new, I can't comment on previous generations of the squad and I'm sure long time fans will have a different view.
But if, like me, you're new to comics and want something a little darker; it's a great starting point!

Agents of SHIELD

Well the pilot has been met with a lot of negative opinions. I personally liked it. Wasn't the most amazing thing on telly, but it was enjoyable. Plus it's only the first episode and it piqued my interest. Many questions need to be answered over the series, the biggest of which is what really happened with Coulson?

I think there will be great character development. I mean Coulson was a bit part in Iron Man and now he has enough fans to warrant a TV show centering around him. I immediately disliked the hacker girl. She had amusing one liners but she was pushy and egotistical, she not only thought she was smarter than everyone, she thought she was a better human being. A conspiracy theorist with a Messiah complex. This tones down and I think Coulson seeing potential in her makes her more tolerable. I can maybe see myself even liking her eventually. I'm reserving judgement on the others. I was a little thrown by the science couple. Random choice of accents but then hey look at Stargate Atlantis!

A lot of people have had issues with the plot, I won't go into detail so as not to spoil it. This may be a case of expecting too much, it may be a case of knowing the background too well. Like when a film is spoilt because you know the book inside out. But hey I liked it! Maybe I'm just more easily pleased?

Overall I'd say it's an enjoyable way to spend an hour, just don't expect something the level of Avengers. I look forward to seeing how it turns out. I expect better things!

Monster's University Letterman Jacket

So ebay can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Horror stories galore and yet it's a popular site. Well as soon as I saw the bright blue letterman jacket of Monsters University I knew I wanted one,

The search began with the Disney store. I wanted to know all my options. There is an actual website where you can "enrol"  http://monstersuniversity.com/edu/ kids will enjoy this website, there's also a store but no letterman jackets!

So after messing about on that website, I'm a big kid after all! I decided I could try and make my own. So to ebay. A cosplayers best friend. And basically it turns out its cheaper to buy one pre made really.

Ebay prices change but currently this particular jacket stands at £19.99 and £2.99 delivery. It arrived promptly (Shipped from Leeds)

The quality is top. Nice and fleecey on the inside, soft cotton outside. I've had it a few weeks now and the patch is still solid, no peeling, I've yet to wash it though. Nice and warm. Great colour.

Available in many sizes from kids to adult. I'm 5ft7 and a size 8. I got a size small. Fits nicely. Baggy but it's supposed to be a bit big.

Overall yes I would recommend it.

Blog: The World is Mysterious

http://theworldismysterious.wordpress.com/

Rarely would I take the time to review a blog, but then never have I seen a mix of interesting little known topics, with understandable Chaos Theory sections.

So the blog is split into two categories: One is Chaos Theory as aforementioned, the other is Wonders of the World.

Have you heard of Cenotes? I certainly hadn't. I think you should read it for yourself, but the highlights are Mayan sacrifice, under earth linked waterways, and dinosaurs! Read on: http://theworldismysterious.wordpress.com/category/wonders-of-the-world/

Now this may be a little more difficult to persuade you to read. Chaos Theory. The name sounds ridiculous but bear with me, you don't have to understand it to enjoy the applications. CGI is a product of fractals. Fractals is just one are of Chaos Theory, a particularly brilliant and beautiful area!

Oh and any Star Wars/Spaced fans will appreciate Chaos Theory.

This blog is still pretty new but I look forward to seeing where it will go. It's wonderful the way he writes is academic but understandable. It's like picking up your favourite book only to find a new story.

City of God

Rarely do I enjoy other people's favourite films as much as I enjoyed this. When watching old classics the more you're expected to love it, the less I want to. And sometimes it's only with extra viewings away from the pressure that you find the appreciation said film deserves. An excellent example of this is Bladerunner. I really disliked it first time I watched it. I could see that it had a great scope of influence on future works but as a film it wasn't for me. I do like it more now, but I wish I'd discovered it on my own.

So to City of God. I was nervous. It's my boyfriend's favourite film ever and I had never heard of it. But it was his birthday and so I bought it for him and hoped I'd enjoy it when the time came to watch it.

I needn't have worried. The film is really something! It's gritty without being depressing. There are so many strong personalities in the film. The plot is extensive but easy to follow. It reads almost like a book. There are chapters, and within those are sections of the story that are easily digested.

For a film with gangsters, it avoids stereotypical threats and cheesy lines. In fact some of the gangsters are more like hippies. There are comedic elements but also some incredibly dark scenes.

This is such a short review but I wouldn't want to spoil a thing.

One short note: The film is subtitled, I know some people hate that, but this really is wonderful.

The Wolverine

Well I've watched all the X Men offerings so far, I had to go watch the Wolverine. I know many people were let down by his origins story. It was flawed. Let's be honest and if you know the comics it was probably painful. I do not know the comics and so it was entertainment for me, no more no less. But let's move on from the past and look to what we have now.

We find a tormented Logan not really living after what happened in Last Stand. I had heard that the new movie was going to ignore Last Stand, this film suggests otherwise. Contrary to popular opinion I actually like this. Fine ignore origins it won't fit. but don't ignore the trilogy. I think it could fit in with the backstory to Days of Future Past but maybe I'm biased?

Yukio is bad ass! The fight scenes are well choreographed and exciting. There are ninjas for crying out loud! Ninja's always get plus points from me. A few thing are perhaps predictable whilst others are a bit like what? I wonder if there were a few options for plot development rather than one overall plan. But for me it worked. It was what all the X Men films are. Entertaining.

And then there is the last scene. The one after the credits that if you wait patiently you are rewarded with. If you go and see this film, wait until that scene. Whatever you do you must wait. I had a suspicion what it would be and I was right. I will not divulge any information but you will fan girl your way out of the cinema even if you're a 40 year old man. Most agree it's the best bit of the film, although some people in my party had questions because they didn't watch the after after credits scene in Last Stand. Bwahaha!

So excited for Days of Future Past. I think it could be something really special the way Avengers really stood out among the Iron Man, Captain America etc series of films.

Monster's University

Well no-one who is a Pixar fan will need convincing to go see this. Pixar have a certain level of excellence that means even if you have been living under a rock and not seen Monsters Inc, you'd be willing to give this a chance. I feel like Pixar make sequels only when they have somewhere to take the story.

So I went to the cinema with high hopes but also apprehensive. I mean if this film let me down it would be huge. Luckily no such disaster occurred!

Young Mike Wazowski is the cutest thing ever! It made the film for me straight away! I think it's something we can all associate with, feeling like an outsider. As a fan girl would say, "The Feels!"

The elements that made me fall in love with Monsters Inc were all there, the laughs, the friendship, the cuteness. It is a good film! For me, Monsters Inc is still my favourite but then I've watched that so many times. I think I'll have to add MU to my DVD collection to really appreciate it more!

I also think Disney are missing a trick not selling MU letterman jackets. I will be buying one of ebay though!

I'm such a big kid!
